Some people struggle to control their drinking and can become emotionally as well as physically dependent on alcohol. This dependence on alcohol affects not only their health, but also the lives of those around them.

Drinking when stressed
People sometimes drink to relieve stress. The relaxing effects can feel good in the short term, but the long-term effects can be dangerous if one begins to drink excessively or experiences symptoms of dependence.
Exercising, eating well and getting plenty of sleep are proven methods to help with stress and can be great alternatives. You could also speak to a friend or family member, or get advice from a dedicated counselling service or healthcare professional if you have issues with either stress or drinking.
